Auf dem speziellen Forschungsflugzeug &#8220;<strong>ER-2<\/strong>&#8220;, das in Wallops Island, Virginia stationiert ist und das in H\u00f6hen <strong>oberhalb 18 km<\/strong> fliegen kann, werden die Prototypen von zwei neuen Laser-Instrumenten installiert und testweise betrieben.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wetter-center.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/511842main_mabel5.jpg\" alt=\"ER-2\" width=\"470\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Die beiden Instrumente sind das &#8220;Cloud-Aerosol Transport System&#8221; (<strong>CATS<\/strong>) und das &#8220;Multiple Altimeter Beam Experimental Lidar&#8221; (<strong>MABEL<\/strong>). CATS ist ein <a href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lidar\" target=\"_blank\">Lidar-Instrument<\/a> mit hoher spektraler Aufl\u00f6sung, das Daten \u00fcber Wolken und <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wetter-center.de\/blog\/?p=498\">Aerosole wie Staub- und Rauchteilchen<\/a> sammeln soll.<\/p>\n<p>Ein \u00e4hnliches Instrument ist bereits auf dem NASA-Satelliten &#8220;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www-calipso.larc.nasa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">CALIPSO<\/a><\/strong>&#8221; (Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation) im Einsatz. Doch CALIPSO kann zwar Aerosole entdecken, nicht aber herausfinden, um welche Art von Teilchen es sich handelt, dies soll mit CATS m\u00f6glich werden. Bei erfolgreichem Test soll das Instrument auf dem neuen, derzeit noch in Planung befindlichen NASA-Satelliten &#8220;<strong>ACE<\/strong>&#8221; (Aerosol-Cloud Ecosystems) installiert sowie im Jahre 2013 auf der <strong>Internationalen Raumstation<\/strong> ISS installiert werden.<\/p>\n<p>Das andere Instrument namens &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/topics\/earth\/features\/mabel-maiden.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>MABEL<\/strong><\/a>&#8221; ist ein sogenanntes Laseraltimeter. MABEL soll im Jahre 2016 auf dem NASA-Satelliten <a href=\"http:\/\/icesat.gsfc.nasa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">ICESat-2<\/a> installiert werden, mit dem die <strong>Eis- und Vegetationsbedeckung<\/strong> der Erde erkundet werden kann. Das Instrument war bereits im April in dem NASA-Flugzeug &#8220;ER-2&#8221; \u00fcber Island im Einsatz und hat dort bereits erste Ergebnisse \u00fcber die <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wetter-center.de\/blog\/?p=588\">Eisbedeckung<\/a> geliefert, jetzt soll das Instrument noch die Vegetation an der Ostk\u00fcste der USA messen, so dass die Forscher Algorithmen zur Ableitung von <strong>Vegetationsparametern<\/strong> entwickeln k\u00f6nnen.
