{"id":211,"date":"2009-09-08T21:42:56","date_gmt":"2009-09-08T20:42:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wetter-center.de\/blog\/?p=211"},"modified":"2009-09-08T22:00:21","modified_gmt":"2009-09-08T21:00:21","slug":"neuer-supercomputer-fur-us-wetterdienst","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wetter-center.de\/blog\/neuer-supercomputer-fur-us-wetterdienst\/","title":{"rendered":"Neuer Supercomputer f\u00fcr US-Wetterdienst"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nachdem der Deutsche Wetterdienst (DWD) im M\u00e4rz diesen Jahres seinen neuen <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wetter24.de\/de\/home\/wetter\/wetter_news\/news\/archive\/2009\/march\/ch\/3bf8ce1973\/article\/wetter_supercomputer.html\" target=\"_blank\">Supercomputer NEC SX 9<\/a> in Betrieb genommen hatte, hat nun auch der US-amerikanische Wetterdienst (oder genauer die National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.noaa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">NOAA<\/a>) ein Upgrade bekommen. Und so sieht das gute St\u00fcck aus (Bild von NOAA):<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wetter-center.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/noaa_supercomputer.jpg\" title=\"NOAA Supercomputer\" alt=\"NOAA Supercomputer\" width=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Das System hat IBM hergestellt und es ist gleich doppelt vorhanden. Das Hauptrechnersystem hei\u00dft &#8220;Stratus&#8221; und das Backup-System &#8220;Cirrus&#8221;, es basiert auf einem IBM Power 575 System und kann 69,7 <a href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Billion\" target=\"_blank\">Billionen<\/a> Multiplikationen pro Sekunde (auch &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flops\" target=\"_blank\">FLOPS<\/a>&#8221; genannt f\u00fcr Floating Point Operations per Second) erledigen, vier mal mehr als der bisherige Computer. Der NEC SX 9 des DWD wird aber in der n\u00e4chsten Ausbaustufe ab 2010 mit 109 Billion Operationen pro Sekunden deutlich schneller sein.<\/p>\n<p>Damit endet ein 9-Jahres-Vertrag der NOAA mit IBM, der dem Computerkonzern 180 Millionen Dollar gebracht hat.
