Jahrhunderts die <strong>Ablagerung von Schnee<\/strong> an der K\u00fcste der Westantarktis drastisch <strong>zugenommen<\/strong>. Bis 1899 blieb der j\u00e4hrliche Schneefall stabil, im Durchschnitt fielen zwischen 330 und 400 Liter pro Quadratmeter Wasser\u00e4quivalent (geschmolzener Schnee).<\/p>\n<p>Die Forscher fanden\u00a0einen schrittweisen, langfristigen Anstieg der j\u00e4hrlichen Schneeakkumulation, die in den fr\u00fchen 1900er Jahren begann und sich in den 1980er Jahren beschleunigte. Zwischen 1900 und 2010 verst\u00e4rkte sich der Schneefall um rund <strong>30 Prozent<\/strong>. In den letzten 30 Jahren der Studie gewann die Eisschicht fast <strong>5 Meter<\/strong> mehr Wasser als w\u00e4hrend der ersten 30 Jahre des untersuchten Zeitraums.<\/p>\n<p>Die Zunahme des Schneefalls geht zum Teil auf eine <strong>Intensivierung der regionalen Tiefdruckgebiete<\/strong>\u00a0und damit verbunden st\u00e4rkere St\u00fcrme in der Westantarktis zur\u00fcck. Diese St\u00fcrme sorgen aber offenbar auch gleichzeitig f\u00fcr w\u00e4rmere Meeresstr\u00f6mungen in die K\u00fcstenregion, so dass das <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wetter-center.de\/blog\/?p=1197\" target=\"_blank\">Schelfeis\u00a0vor der K\u00fcste der Westantarktis<\/a> (das Eis, das auf dem Meerwasser aufliegt) \u00a0von unten her d\u00fcnner wird, w\u00e4hrend gleichzeitig weiter landeinw\u00e4rts mehr Schnee f\u00e4llt.<\/p>\n<p>Ob die Intensivierung der Tiefdruckgebiete auf die Globale Erw\u00e4rmung zur\u00fcckzuf\u00fchren ist, ist allerdings nicht vollst\u00e4ndig gekl\u00e4rt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Einer neuen Studie des British Antarctic Survey, Cambridge, zur Folge hat w\u00e4hrend des 20.
