Die meisten Vulkane liegen in der Westantarktis, genau dort findet auch die\u00a0st\u00e4rkste Erw\u00e4rmung statt.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wetter-center.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/antarctic-volcano.gif\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1040\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wetter-center.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/antarctic-volcano.gif\" alt=\"Vulkane in der Antarktis\" width=\"500\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Der <strong>Thwaites-Gletscher<\/strong> und der benachbarte <strong>Pine-Island-Gletscher<\/strong> in der Westantarktis <a title=\"Antarktis: Gletscher schmelzen 20 mal schneller als fr\u00fcher\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wetter-center.de\/blog\/?p=52\">schmelzen deutlich schneller<\/a> als in den letzten Jahrzehnten. Dabei sind die Lufttemperaturen in der Region seit 1979 nicht gestiegen die Wassertemperaturen an der K\u00fcste zeigen sogar seit 2006 einen negativen Trend. Wie die Forscher nun anhand von Gravitationsdaten herausfanden, ist die Erdkruste unter diesen Gletscher mit nur 18 bis 24 km Dicke sehr d\u00fcnn. Hier befindet sich ein vulkanischen Grabensystem, das die Gletscher von unten erw\u00e4rmt.<\/p>\n<p>Im Gegensatz dazu kann in der <strong>Ostantarktis<\/strong>, in der sich mehr als 80 Prozent des antarktischen Eises befindet, eine Zunahme der Eismasse beobachtet werden.
